Women’s Studies Conference FTD Tour - May 2023

PART ONE - 2 night program

Saturday, May 13 — ARRIVE IN CHIANG RAI

Our program starts in Chiang Rai. Please schedule your flight to arrive late morning, prior to noon. Upon arrival, we will drive to the FTD Sunflower Farm campus in Maechan to spend the afternoon with our Thai Daughters. Bring your swimsuit, towel and sneakers. Tour the Farm and gardens and enjoy a home cooked Thai meal. This evening we check into Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort, a 5-star property.

Sunday, May 14 - HILL TRIBE VILLAGES & NIGHT BAZAAR

After breakfast, we will be driving into the mountains along the Burmese border to visit Akha hill tribe villages, home to several of our FTD Daughters. After a local lunch, we will return to the hotel to relax before our evening at the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar where the adventurous can sample fried crickets while the rest can enjoy a hot pot meal, shopping and (very) local entertainment.

Monday, May 15 — WHITE TEMPLE AND CHIANG KHONG

Today, we depart Le Meridien after breakfast. Our first stop is the iconic White Temple. We will head to the airport to drop departing passengers. End of Part One

Includes

  • Airport pick up and drop off, air conditioned van transportation
  • 2 nights’ accommodation in deluxe, garden view room at Le Meridien
  • Meals and activities as noted above
  • Airfare and items of a personal nature (laundry, alcohol) are not included
  • Single supplement is $300

PART TWO - 2 night program

Monday, May 15 — WHITE TEMPLE AND CHIANG KHONG

Today, we depart Le Meridien after breakfast. Our first stop is the iconic White Temple. Then we continue to the Laos border town of Chiang Khong, home to our other Sunflower House. After checking into the Baan Sakuna, a locally-owned hotel surrounded by rice paddies, we’ll be joined by our Chiang Khong Daughters for dinner.

Tuesday, May 16 - MEKONG RIVER CRUISE & RAINBOW HOUSE

After breakfast, we will take a boat ride down the mighty Mekong river in a long tail boat to a scenic cafe where we’ll have lunch. Next stop is the village of Songpinong, home to many of our Thai Daughters. Visit our Rainbow House and learn about the Daughter-initiated program to help educate village children. Tonight our Thai Daughters will prepare our Farewell Dinner.

Wednesday, May 17 - END OF TOUR

After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and depart to the Chiang Rai Airport for your onward journey.
